So anyone else felt the connection with City of God? Everybody likes it… but I wonder if there were as many protests in Brazil. After all, this IS Brazilian Poverty Porn.
I’m sure the residents of Rio de Janeiro were up in arms about this Oscar baiting movie which shows only one side of their city, and ignores the normal beach-going, McDonald’s eating, BMW driving population.
I particularly like the opening sequence.

Hmmmm… Ignoring the creative liberties used by Boyle, the film is just an OK fare in my opinion. Good for a one time watch. Oscar worthy? Not in my opinion. But yeah, going overboard with the poverty porn rhetoric is kinda stupid. But when way people are blabbering on about SDM being an inspirational story, showcase of victory of humanity and bullshit like that, I seriously wonder, WTFF are they smoking? Call me shallow, but what was inspirational in it anyway?
BTW, the hand is your best friend when you have lots of time, and porn.
@sree: I found it a very NORMAL movie. Poor hero, gets the girl in the end. No seriously? And yes WTF is inspirational? That’s like saying all these reality shows on TV are inspirational. Are they? How do these participants get such long leaves???? You want inspiration, go watch The Pursuit of Happiness for fuck’s sake.

Late comment, BUT the movie was pretty idiotic. Stagnant acting, bad cinematography and horrible dubbing apart, the plot was bland and not even remotely inspirational.
How the fuck some Indians liked it, I don’t know. But one thing I got to know from this ‘incident’ was that 98% of the urban populace watches movies for hype-value.
